Game Rating:
This is a World of Darkness Game. The appropriate maturity rating for scenes on this board is R, ages 18+. This means you should expect to possibly come across mentions of violence, drug usage, innuendo, dark themes, and swear words. Use your best judgement on whether something is appropriate. If you have a thread with something that is NSFW (not safe for work), please label it as such in the topic line for other players and ST staff alike. Many of us read the forums from our work computers. If you find yourself in a scene that is graphic and of a sexual nature please fade out on the main forum. Move the scene to a private area, to PMs, or off the board.
Absence:
If you know you are going to be posting slower then usual, if you get sick, if you are going on a holiday, that is perfectly fine! It is best to let people you are in scenes with know that you may be offline or slow. Its only polite.
Forum Time Line:
It is generally accepted that the date you start your scene is the date that it takes place.
The exception to this is Plot Threads; Combats, Rites of Passage, Investigations, Confrontations, Challenges on the Mound etc. These threads will be labeled as plot threads in the topic line. These threads are understood to be taking place in the future so as to not limit role-play for the duration of time it takes for them to reach a natural conclusion. The actual day that these scenes conclude is considered to be the day that it takes place, unless otherwise stated by Storytellers.
Time is wishy washy on a bboard game. Please be flexible about dates, because it will get mind bending for everyone involved otherwise. If you have a question about timeline, don't hesitate to ask an ST.
Scene Duration:
Try to wrap up your scenes within a couple of weeks. Longer threads are what messes up the timeline the most. Its understood that some things just take longer, so if this happens, don't fret too much. This is just a general guideline for most cases.
Shotgunning:
Shotgunning is the term for posting around a character without their permission as though they were not there. To avoid this we ask that you do not reply to a thread more then twice before making sure that every one else in the thread has had a chance to reply. If it looks like someone is being left behind be polite and remind other players with a simple (Pause for John Smith to catch up). Likewise if you know you are going to be inactive for a day or two and it isn't integral for your character to post to a group scene it is considered polite to put up an OOC post in the thread letting other players know it is okay to post around you.
Entering and Exiting a Scene in Progress:
Rule of Thumb - When in doubt, be polite and ask those involved.
Don't join a scene that is multiple pages in with out asking players in the scene first if it is okay even if it says (Open).
Along those lines, do not join a scene a page or two in and in your entry post act as if you have been there watching the whole time. When you enter the scene it is your character just arriving (Unless you have ST permission).
Editing Scenes:
If you need to edit a scene for something other then grammar, and others in the scene have already replied, please PM both the STs and other players involved to ensure that they are okay with the edit you wish to make.
Inner Monologue Issues:
Don't put them in your posts. What is in your post is what people see in your character. Some flavor of thoughts and feelings are necessary to keep writing interesting and characters fresh, but the rule of thumb is that if its in the post, its somehow obvious to other people in the scene. Don't post things that are specifically hidden from other players.
Closed Posts
These are posts with nothing to react to in them. We've all been there, sleepy and half paying attention to what we're writing and maybe not putting in the full effort. However, please make sure there is always space and ample action within a post that the other participants have something to react to. Otherwise, you will quickly find your scenes going nowhere.
Reading Scenes You are Not In:
Hurt feelings, player on player out of character issues, drama, accidental metagaming can be the result of reading a scene you aren't involved in. Reading a scene where someone is talking about your PC can lead to OOC drama. We aren't going to tell you that you can't read scenes that you aren't involved in, because in an ideal world all the writing of other players should be worth it and fun to read. But we would gently discourage it based on the negative downsides. The less you read out of character, the less of a chance there will be you mistakenly use it in character.
Leave Your Drama/Trauma At the Door:
We have no interest in hearing anything negative about other games, players, STs, or anything else either IC or OOC.
